Surat: Diamond, Textile Industry Face Flood Aftermath

As the flood waters slowly start to recede from parts of Gujarat after creating havoc for the last few days, Surat city's Diamond and textile industries are now beginning to fell the devastating effects of the floods.

 

Surat's Mahidarpura market, known for its diamond cutting and polishing units, is one of the worst hit and the losses incurred are likely to be huge.

 

There are seven lakh power looms and 40 thousand textile shops in Surat. Around 2 and half crore metres of textile are processed in the city every day.
