PAN Cards To Have Biometric Features

In a move to make the PAN cards smarter, the Income Tax Department is examining the possibility of using biometric features to ensure security of the number and its uniqueness in relation to a person. According to Minister of State for Finance, S.S. Palanimanickam there has been growth in the number of PAN cards being issued as the government has made quoting of PAN compulsory in all statements and returns filed by all income tax returns filers and in all challans for payment of direct taxes. Stock exchange regulator SEBI has also mandated use of PAN for demat accounts. |
