After the recent violent unrest of farmers over land acquisition in West Bengal and other proposed SEZ's across the country, the government has finally decided to finalize a new rehabilitation policy within the next three months to address all concerns.

Speaking at a function organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that land acquisition and displacement of people and their rehabilitation and resettlement would be transparently addressed.

Most of the proposed special economic zones (SEZs) by the commerce ministry have been in the news for wrong reasons as state governments have been accused to buying farm land from farmers for these zones.

The center’s decision to come up with a new rehabilitation policy follows violent protests against land acquisition in West Bengal for projects in Singur and Nandigram.
