The government has disclosed that various multinational companies have accumulated tax arrears of over Rs 6,385.09 crores assessed during the financial year 2005-06. In addition an evasion of direct tax has also been detected in 411 MNCs out of 1915 defaulter companies.

In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha,State for Finance S S Palanimanickam said that Notices have been issued to the erring companies from time to time but the details of all the MNCs to whom such notices have been sent over the past several years are not maintained centrally.
