By Indiapressagency.com on August 11,2006

The recent flooding in western India and parts of south India have severely hit the transportation business especially in Business hubs like Surat and Baroda.

According to a statement by the Indian Foundation for Transport Research and Training (IFTRT), approx 50,000 trucks are reportedly stranded in the Surat-Baroda industrial belt of Gujarat while around 4,000 trucks with cargo have been submerged in flooded areas in various parts of the country.

Heavy movement of trucks toward safe destinations in parts of Karnataka bordering Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh has generated extra supply of good carriages on these routes, resulting in four-five per cent drop in freight rates.
