In order to bring more transparency and to clear any doubts due to the recent data theft incidents, industry body Nasscom has decided to set up an independent Self Regulatory Organization (SRO), which will establish, monitor and enforce privacy and data protection standards for the ITES and BPO industry in the country.

The SRO which will provide training and capacity building for small companies who do not have enough systems for data security and will lay down certain practices to be followed in this area has already completed its initial round of funding and the final rollout phase, including industry memberships, is underway.

According to Nasscom President Kiran Karnik, discussions are underway for creation of a new international security standard to meet the needs of the industry.
