NASSCOM In Damage Control Mode Over BPO Data Theft Charges

After a leading London daily claimed that credit card data, along with passport and driving license numbers, are being stolen from call centers in India and sold to the highest bidder, industry body NASSCOM has urged the channel outfit to fully cooperate with authorities to find out the corrupt staff.


'The Data Theft Scandal' report is to be aired by Channel 4 in the program 'The Data Theft Scandal' which is part of Channel 4's investigative series Dispatches which will be shown in the UK on Thursday.

In a statement, the trade body of India's IT software and services industry NASSCOM said it has written to the channel saying that their immediate cooperation was vital.

According to the investigation carried by Channel 4, one middleman offering stolen data, Sushant Chandak, offered to sell a database with the credit card details of 200,000 people as commercial leads. At a meeting in Kolkata, he boasted of a network of agents in call centers across India.
