Exports from India have recorded a handsome growth of over 40% in the month of June alone. India's merchandise exports have also surged by a robust 32.4% in the first quarter of this fiscal at $27.672 billion against $20.901 billion in the like period of last fiscal.

Expressing satisfaction on the latest figures, Commerce Minister Kamal Nath said that the sustained buoyancy of India's exports and the record growth is a result of various policy measures of the government and the growing global competitiveness of Indian enterprises.

India's imports during June 2006 were valued at $13.764 billion - an increase of 23.98 percent on $11.101 billion in June 2005. The trade deficit, thus, stood at $12.609 billion for the first quarter of this fiscal, against a deficit of $11.459 billion during April-June 2005.
