Income Tax Employees Threaten Strike

After announcement of a strike by the Bank employees,  officers along with group C and D employees of the Income Tax Department have threatened not to work on July 31, the last date for submitting income tax returns if their demands including filling up of vacancies are not met.

The employees today staged demonstration in various parts of the country to press for their demands, which also include banning of outsourcing of functions like PAN cards and dropping a proposal for setting up large tax payer units.

However, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) spokesman A K Sinha said the IT Department's efforts to give uninterrupted services to the tax assessee to deposit their returns will not be allowed to be affected.
