Airlines Can Have Free Hand In Pricing Tickets

By Indiapressagency.com on July 17,2006

In a move to further liberalise the country's aviation sector, the government is planning to give domestic carriers a free hand in pricing tickets.

Under the current norms, domestic carriers are required to get prior permission from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation before announcing new fares and schedules. The DGCA can also issue missives to airlines on matters relating to tariff and can ask a carrier to change its existing fare structure.

According to new proposals, the airlines will be required to inform the government about their average annual fare structure. Besides, airlines are also required to maintain all records relating to tariffs established by it. Also every airline will have to give information regarding cost of operation, profit and the general prevailing tariff and rates and charges for air transportation.
